Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls — Unsolved Rap Murders

Rapper Tupac Shakur was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, and died six days later; rapper The Notorious B.I.G. was shot in a drive-by in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. Both murders occurred amid the infamous East Coast/West Coast rap rivalry. Despite extensive investigations and multiple civil lawsuits alleging LAPD involvement in the Biggie murder, no one has ever been charged with either killing. In 2023, Duane Keith Davis was arrested in connection with the Shakur murder but the case faces legal challenges. The Biggie case remains entirely unsolved.
