Paranormal.net ("we", "us", or "our") operates the paranormal.net website and iOS companion app (the "Service"). This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
Account information. When you register, we collect your username, email address, optional display name, and a hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
Submitted reports. When you file an incident report, we collect the information you provide: event description, date, location (city, state, country), witness count, and any uploaded photos or media.
Comments. Comments you post are stored with your username and display name.
Usage data. We collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser/app user agent strings, and pages visited. This data is used to detect abuse, diagnose errors, and understand general traffic patterns. Log data is retained for up to 30 days.
Location. The iOS app may request permission to access your device location to show nearby reports. Location data is used only on-device to filter results — it is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
Cookies and sessions. We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking cookies are used.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising purposes. We may disclose information:
Approved incident reports are published publicly on the site. Your username or display name may be shown as the submitter if you were logged in when you filed the report. Anonymous reports are attributed to "Anonymous."
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information (email, display name, password) is removed immediately and your sessions are terminated. Anonymised incident reports you submitted may remain in the archive.
Password reset tokens expire after 2 hours and are deleted upon use.

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data: HTTPS/TLS for all connections, bcrypt password hashing, parameterised database queries, and httpOnly/Secure session cookies. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The site uses Google Fonts (typography). Google may log requests for font files — see Google's Privacy Policy.
The iOS app uses Apple's MapKit for map display. Apple's privacy policy applies to any data processed by MapKit.
Submitted reports without coordinates are geocoded via Nominatim / OpenStreetMap. Only the city/region/country string is sent — no personal data.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
