FULL ACCOUNT
On November 7, 2006, a number of United Airlines employees at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport observed a metallic disc-shaped object hovering motionlessly over Concourse C. The witnesses included pilots, mechanics, supervisors, and gate personnel. The object was described as dark gray and perfectly circular, approximately 6 to 24 feet in diameter. It hovered silently for approximately five minutes at an estimated 1,500 feet altitude before shooting upward at tremendous speed, punching a circular hole through the low overcast cloud layer that witnesses said remained visible for several minutes. Witnesses who reported the incident to United Airlines management said they were told not to discuss the matter. United initially denied any reports had been made, though it later acknowledged receiving at least one report. The FAA said it had no record of the event. The Chicago Tribune filed a FOIA request that revealed the FAA did receive a call about the incident. The case generated significant media attention and is notable for involving multiple credentialed aviation professionals making consistent reports about a single event.
