Skyfish: okay I need to know if anyone else saw this show called Candle Cove when they were little. I'm 26 now but when I was around 6-8 years old it used to come on early in the morning in my area.
Jaren_2: Candle Cove? I remember that! Pirate show, right?
Skyfish: yes!! with the little girl, Janice. And the pirate characters. There was Horace Horrible, and the Skin-Taker.
Jaren_2: The Skin-Taker! God, that guy was terrifying. Why did they make a kids show with a villain named the Skin-Taker?
Piratejenny: I grew up in the same area and I used to watch it too. There was something deeply upsetting about it but I couldn't tell you what. I remember Janice had to go on a voyage to Candle Cove, which was this island or place or something.
Skyfish: yes and the Skin-Taker was always asking about her skin. He had this hollow raspy voice. He used to say "your skin, Janice" in this low hissing whisper.
Milo_V: I remember the Skin-Taker's mouth didn't open right. Like the jaw moved but the lips never parted. Just this clacking. And the voice came from somewhere else.
Piratejenny: I had nightmares about that jaw thing. Do you remember the episode where Janice had to cross the Laughing Stalks? These tall yellow stalks that laughed in this horrible chorus?
Skyfish: YES. That episode terrified me. I cried and my mom said I didn't have to watch it anymore. And I think I watched it again anyway. Like I had to.
Jaren_2: There was one episode I can't remember clearly but I feel like something was wrong with it. Not wrong like scary. Wrong like it shouldn't have aired. Does anyone know what I mean?
Milo_V: The one at the end? With the ship?
Jaren_2: Maybe. I don't know. I just feel bad when I think about it.
Skyfish: I've been trying to find any record of this show. There's nothing. No listings, no fan pages, nothing. It's like it didn't exist outside of our heads.
Piratejenny: I asked my mom about it and she got very quiet and said she remembered me watching it but that the screen was just static.

She said she used to let me watch it because I seemed to like it and it kept me quiet.
She said she never watched it with me because whenever she looked at the screen it was just static. She said the whole time she could hear me in the other room making this sound she'd never heard me make before.
She said I was making a screaming sound. Like an animal.
She thought it was normal. She thought it was just a show.
