Item #: SCP-179
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-179 cannot be physically contained. Foundation assets at solar monitoring stations are to maintain continuous observation of SCP-179 and log all gestures and positional changes. A dedicated translation team has been assigned to the ongoing effort to interpret SCP-179's communication. Any significant change in behavior is to be reported to O5 immediately.
Description: SCP-179 is a humanoid entity approximately 2 meters in height, observed via long-range solar telescope to be orbiting the sun at a mean distance of approximately 0.7 AU. SCP-179 does not appear to require a spacesuit, atmosphere, or any other life support. She — assigned pronoun, based on apparent physical characteristics — has been observed in this orbit for as long as records extend.
SCP-179 faces inward toward the solar system. She does not face the sun. She faces us.
She gestures. These gestures are deliberate, complex, and repeated. They follow identifiable patterns that suggest language or signaling. Foundation xenolinguists have worked to decode her gestures since the 1970s.
We have made partial progress.
What we have decoded suggests that SCP-179 is not communicating with the Foundation specifically. She is not aware of us in any specific sense. She is issuing warnings.
She is warning something inside the solar system about things approaching from outside it.
We do not yet understand all of what she is describing. The parts we have decoded are concerning enough that the relevant addenda have been restricted to O5 clearance only.
What we can say publicly: she has been at this for a very long time. Her gestures are repetitive and urgent in structure. She is describing something that is ongoing, not theoretical.
Research Note — Xenolinguist Dr. S████:
We have a rough translation for approximately 40% of her gesture vocabulary. The most frequently repeated sequence, which we are increasingly confident is the closest thing she has to a greeting or address marker, translates to something like: you who are inside — pay attention — I am watching for you.
She does this for us. She has been doing this for centuries without acknowledgment. Without any indication that anyone inside the solar system was listening.
I want to send her a signal. I want to tell her we hear her.
I've been told we're not ready for her to know we're here.
I don't think that's the right call. I think whatever she's watching for already knows.
