SCP-096 — The Shy Guy

Item #: SCP-096
Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-096 is to be contained in a 5m x 5m x 5m airtight steel cube. No cameras, viewing ports, or reflective surfaces are permitted in the containment chamber. All personnel entering the chamber must wear opaque covering over the eyes. The penalty for failing to cover the eyes before entry is absolute.

Description: SCP-096 is a humanoid creature, approximately 2.38 meters tall, with a thin build and pale skin. Its facial features are — this section is redacted in all documentation. Facial features cannot be described in this document. Personnel who have seen SCP-096's face and survived have been administered Class-B amnestics. Their descriptions prior to amnestic administration are sealed.

Under normal circumstances, SCP-096 sits in the corner of its chamber, facing the wall, and does not move. It makes occasional vocalizations: low moaning, occasional whimpering. It appears distressed.

If any person views SCP-096's face — directly, in a photograph, in a reflection, through any medium including low-resolution video captures — SCP-096 will begin what personnel have designated "agitated state." It will stand. It will cover its face with its hands. It will emit a series of high-pitched screams.

Then it will go to whoever saw its face.

Distance is not a factor. Walls are not a factor. Containment is not a factor. SCP-096 has breached containment on ██ occasions to reach a target. It has never failed to reach a target.

What occurs when SCP-096 reaches its target is catalogued in Addendum 096-1. Addendum 096-1 is restricted to Level 4 and above.

The initial report notes only: the target is not recoverable. There is very little left of the target when SCP-096 is retrieved.

SCP-096 returns to its containment chamber of its own accord after reaching a target. It sits in the corner. It faces the wall. It resumes making small, distressed sounds.

Personnel are reminded: do not look at its face. The chamber has no cameras for this reason. If SCP-096 is depicted in external media, the face must be obscured before that media can be released. If you are reading this document and there is an image attached: do not scroll down.
