Item #: SCP-1471
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1471 is not currently removable from app distribution platforms. Affected individuals (SCP-1471-A) are to be monitored. Those who experience significant psychological distress are to be administered Class-B amnestics and have the app removed. Instances that progress beyond Stage 3 are to be contained for observation.
Description: SCP-1471 is a free mobile application called "MalO ver1.0.0" available on multiple platforms. It has no listed developer and no description. It installs without user permission in some cases.
SCP-1471 functions as a messaging app. It sends images to users — photographs of normal environments: streets, parks, buildings. In each image, a figure designated SCP-1471-A appears. SCP-1471-A is a large humanoid with a canine or skeletal facial structure. It is visible in the background of images, in windows, in reflections. It does not appear to be aware of the camera in early-stage images.
Progression by exposure:
24 hours: User receives first images. SCP-1471-A appears in background.
48 hours: SCP-1471-A appears in user's own photographs and reflections, regardless of whether SCP-1471 is active.
72 hours: User reports seeing SCP-1471-A in peripheral vision.
96 hours: SCP-1471-A appears directly in the user's field of vision, in the user's physical environment.
120 hours: User and SCP-1471-A are able to make direct eye contact. SCP-1471-A appears to become aware of the user.
Beyond 120 hours, SCP-1471-A has been observed by third parties in the environments of affected users. It does not attack. It does not communicate. It follows.
Affected users uniformly report that SCP-1471-A does not feel threatening. They describe it as more curious than hostile. Several have expressed unwillingness to have the app removed once contact has been established. One subject stated: "It took a long time for someone to notice me too."
Foundation researchers have been unable to determine what SCP-1471-A is or where it exists when not observed. It is not present in environments where no SCP-1471-A instance is active.
It is always watching from somewhere.
