FULL ACCOUNT
Granger Taylor was a mechanical prodigy from Duncan, British Columbia who had rebuilt working locomotives, aircraft, and heavy equipment with little formal education. In the late 1970s, he became obsessed with UFOs and constructed a full-scale replica of a flying saucer in his backyard using two satellite dishes, spending all his time inside it watching science fiction films. On the stormy night of November 29, 1980, 32-year-old Granger left a handwritten note for his parents: "I have gone away to walk aboard an alien spaceship, as recurring dreams assured a 42-month interstellar voyage to explore the vast universe, then return. I am leaving behind all possessions to you as I will no longer require the use of any." He crossed out the word "death" in his will and replaced it with "departure." He then drove his pink Datsun pickup truck toward Mount Prevost during the height of the storm. Neighbors reported hearing a large explosion. He was never seen again. Five and a half years later, bone fragments, a piece of his shirt, and vehicle wreckage were found in a crater on the mountain. The VIN matched his truck. Taylor had taken dynamite from his family's property the night he left. Whether he was killed by an explosion he engineered, struck by lightning, or something else entirely — no definitive answer has ever been reached.
