FULL ACCOUNT
On January 26, 1966, three siblings — Jane aged 9, Arnna aged 7, and Grant aged 4 — took a public bus from their home in Somerton Park to Glenelg Beach in Adelaide, South Australia, as they had done many times before. They were last seen at approximately 3 PM at the beach. When they had not returned home by 7 PM, their parents reported them missing. They were never seen again. Multiple witnesses reported seeing the three children with an unknown tall, blond man at the beach. The children appeared comfortable with the man, sharing his lunch and playing freely with him, suggesting they had met him before. One witness saw the man give Jane money to buy pies. Another saw them together near the change rooms in the early afternoon. The Beaumont children case became Australia's most traumatic and enduring missing children mystery. The investigation was one of the largest in South Australian history. Thousands of persons of interest were questioned. Despite strong witness descriptions of the unknown man, no arrest was ever made. In the decades since, several suspects have been named publicly and investigated, including Dutch pedophile and convicted murderer Arthur Brown. Brown's daughter died claiming her father was responsible. Multiple excavations of properties associated with suspects have been conducted, including in 2013 and 2018, finding no human remains. The case profoundly changed Australian attitudes toward child safety and missing persons protocols.
