On the night of July 29, 2012, neighbors reported a loud disturbance coming from 21-year-old Kortne Stouffer's apartment in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Police responded and found Kortne in an agitated state but determined no crime had occurred. They left. Shortly after, neighbors again reported screaming and crashing sounds from the apartment. Police returned a second time, spoke with Kortne, and again left without taking any action, determining she was simply upset. The screaming and sounds of struggle continued. By the next morning, Kortne's apartment was found unlocked and empty. She was gone. Her car, her wallet, her phone — all left behind. Her dog was locked in the bathroom. A neighbor reported hearing "blood-curdling" screaming after the second police departure. Despite this, no physical evidence linking a specific perpetrator to her disappearance has ever been publicly released. Investigators have named persons of interest — two men known to Kortne who have since been imprisoned on unrelated charges — but no arrests have been made. Kortne Stouffer has never been found.
