FULL ACCOUNT
On the evening of March 13, 1997, thousands of people across the state of Arizona—and into Nevada and the Mexican state of Sonora—witnessed two distinct events in the sky. The first was a formation of lights passing over the state in a V-shape traveling from the north; the second was a series of stationary orbs hovering over the Phoenix metro area.
The V-formation was described by many witnesses as a single solid craft of immense size, some estimating it to be over a mile wide. It passed directly over the city of Phoenix without sound, blocking stars as it moved.
Arizona Governor Fife Symington, who had initially mocked the sightings, admitted in 2007 that he personally witnessed the craft and described it as otherworldly. More than 10,000 people filed reports with local authorities and media.
The US Air Force attributed the stationary lights to flares dropped during a training exercise, but many witnesses dispute this explanation for the V-formation, noting the craft they observed was enormous, silent, and moved at a constant altitude. The Phoenix Lights remain one of the most widely witnessed UAP events in American history.
