The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana dates to 1796 and is considered one of the most haunted homes in America. The property was built on a Tunica burial ground, and the land has a history of violence including at least ten murders. Most famous is the spirit of Chloe, an enslaved woman who allegedly poisoned a family member and was hanged on the property.
The plantation's most famous artifact is a large antique mirror in the main hallway in which guests and investigators have reported seeing handprints forming on the glass from within, and faces peering out that don't belong to any reflection. The prints reportedly cannot be fully cleaned from the glass.
Guests staying overnight in the plantation's rooms have reported being touched, hearing voices, and seeing the apparition of a woman in a green turban—identified as Chloe—moving through the halls. Children are frequently reported to appear at the foot of beds before vanishing.
The plantation operates as a bed and breakfast and has maintained detailed records of guest paranormal reports since the 1980s. A lawyer was shot and killed in the house in 1927, and his ghost is reportedly seen sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch.
