Item #: SCP-2399
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-2399 is currently not feasible given the entity's location and scale. The Foundation maintains covert monitoring via a network of repurposed deep-space observation assets. Communication with SCP-2399 has been attempted forty-seven times using electromagnetic, gravitational, and [REDACTED] signal types. SCP-2399 has responded to eleven of these attempts. Responses are logged in Addendum 2399-C.
Civilian astronomical observation of the Great Red Spot anomaly is managed through disinformation campaigns emphasizing standard meteorological explanations. The anomalous readings from within the storm system are attributed to instrumentation error in any public-facing communication.
Description: SCP-2399 is an anomalous construct or entity of unknown origin located within the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, at a depth of approximately 1,400 kilometers below the cloud tops. Its physical dimensions cannot be fully determined through current observation methods, but partial mapping suggests a structure measuring no less than 600 kilometers across its longest axis.
SCP-2399 appears to be damaged.
Physical modeling suggests it has been in its current location for a minimum of ████ years, possibly significantly longer. The damage is consistent with a catastrophic impact or internal failure at some point following its placement. It has been self-repairing at a rate of approximately 0.4% per decade.
At current repair rate, SCP-2399 will be fully operational in approximately ████ years.
What "fully operational" means for SCP-2399 is not known. What SCP-2399 was designed to do is not known. Foundation xenolinguistics teams have made partial progress in interpreting the signal structures returned in response to our communication attempts.
Addendum 2399-A: Communication Attempts — Selected Responses
Attempt #3 (electromagnetic, binary): No response detected.
Attempt #7 (gravitational pulse, mathematical): Response received 14 seconds after transmission. Signal structure, translated: "[DAMAGED/BROKEN]"
Attempt #12 (combined signal, mathematical + Foundation modified protocol): Response received 3 seconds after transmission. Signal structure, translated approximately: "[QUESTION RECEIVED] — [STILL HERE] — [COUNTING]"
Attempt #19: Signal structure, translated: "[NOT YET] — [WAITING FOR REPAIR] — [IT WILL BE SOON]"
Attempt #31: Signal structure, translated: "[YOU HAVE BUILT MUCH SINCE LAST COMMUNICATION] — [THIS IS NOTED] — [IT WILL NOT MATTER]"
Attempt #44: Signal structure, translated: "[YOU WILL WANT TO BE FAR FROM HERE WHEN I AM READY] — [THIS IS ADVICE, NOT THREAT] — [I WAS NOT BUILT TO HUNT SMALL THINGS] — [YOU ARE VERY SMALL]"
Addendum 2399-B: O5 Council Note
The Council has reviewed all communications from SCP-2399. Three points have been flagged:
First: SCP-2399 appears to be aware of Earth and aware of humanity's development. Its reference to "since last communication" implies it was aware of us — or something else on Earth — prior to our attempts to contact it.
Second: The phrase "I was not built to hunt small things" is ambiguous. It may mean we are too small to be its target. It may mean we are simply too small to be worth the word "hunt."
Third: Whatever SCP-2399 was built to destroy, it was something of at least comparable scale to Jupiter.
We do not know what was here once that required a weapon of this size. We do not know if it is still here.
SCP-2399 continues to repair. The count continues. No further analysis seems useful.
