SCP-106 — The Old Man

Item #: SCP-106
Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-106 is contained in a sealed steel cube, 5cm thick, within a secondary containment chamber. Multiple redundant systems monitor for breaches. Upon breach — and breaches occur — all personnel are to evacuate the area and Level 4 containment protocols are initiated. Recapture requires specialized procedures outlined in Document 106-Recontainment. Casualties during recapture attempts are expected and documented separately.

Description: SCP-106 appears as an elderly human male in an advanced state of decay. Its body is dark, corroded, and partially decomposed in appearance. Where SCP-106 touches matter, that matter decays — metal corrodes, concrete degrades, organic material rots. SCP-106 leaves a trail of this decay wherever it moves.

SCP-106 is capable of passing through solid matter. There is no material that reliably prevents this. The containment procedures exploit behavioral quirks rather than physical barriers, and they frequently fail.

SCP-106 preferentially targets humans, with an apparent preference for younger victims. When it reaches a target, it draws them into a pocket dimension — a space accessible only to SCP-106. What occurs in this pocket dimension is known from the accounts of the rare victims returned by SCP-106 after periods of unknown duration.

These victims exhibit extreme physical and psychological trauma. Many are returned missing limbs or organs. All are catatonic on initial recovery. Those who regain the ability to communicate describe a dimension of corridors, all dark, all slightly wrong in proportion, with SCP-106 present and attentive. They describe being hunted, but slowly. They describe the impression that SCP-106 considers the hunt itself to be the purpose — that return to normal space represents a loss of interest rather than mercy.

SCP-106 has been observed pausing during hunts to observe the victim's emotional state. Personnel have noted that it appears more engaged with victims who display fear than with those who do not.

Personnel are reminded that engaging with SCP-106 verbally has no demonstrated effect. It does not communicate. It does not respond. It does what it does.
