Witness Account
Pedro Alonso López, a Colombian national, claimed to have raped and killed more than 300 girls across Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in history if his confession is accurate. He targeted young indigenous girls in rural areas, and his crimes in Peru were discovered when a flash flood exposed the shallow graves of his victims. López was caught in Ecuador in 1980 after a shopkeeper detained him attempting to abduct a girl. He was convicted of 57 murders in Ecuador and sentenced to just 16 years under Ecuadorian law. He was later released in 1998 and his current whereabouts are unknown.
