FULL ACCOUNT
John Wayne Gacy, a construction contractor who performed as "Pogo the Clown" at charity events, murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men in Cook County, Illinois, between 1972 and 1978. He lured victims to his home, where he tortured and strangled them, burying 26 bodies in the crawl space beneath his house and disposing of others in the Des Plaines River. Gacy was arrested in December 1978 after the disappearance of 15-year-old Robert Piest led police to his property. He was convicted of all 33 murders and executed by lethal injection in May 1994.
