FULL ACCOUNT
Yang Xinhai was a Chinese serial killer who murdered 67 people and injured 5 others across four Chinese provinces between 1999 and 2003, making him the most prolific killer in Chinese modern history. He carried out his attacks on sleeping rural families, using axes, hammers, shovels, and meat cleavers in nighttime raids on farmhouses. Yang stated that he had no motive other than a desire to kill after suffering several personal setbacks, including rejection by a girlfriend and multiple prison terms. He was captured in November 2003, confessed to all murders, and was executed by a single gunshot in February 2004.
