FULL ACCOUNT
Anatoly Onoprienko was a Ukrainian serial killer who murdered 52 people — primarily families in rural villages — across Ukraine between 1989 and 1996, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in the former Soviet Union. He attacked entire families in isolated homes, leaving no survivors, and also killed random passersby and people nearby who might have witnessed his crimes. Onoprienko was apprehended in 1996 after his cousin reported his behavior as suspicious. He was convicted of all 52 murders in 1999 and sentenced to death, later commuted to life imprisonment; he died in prison of heart failure in 2013.
