FULL ACCOUNT
Ivan Robert Milat murdered seven international backpackers in the Belanglo State Forest of New South Wales, Australia, between 1989 and 1993. His victims, mainly young European tourists hitchhiking through Australia, were shot, stabbed, or had their spines severed. The first bodies were discovered in 1992, and Milat was arrested in 1994 after a surviving victim identified him. Evidence found at his property included parts of stolen equipment belonging to victims. Convicted of all seven murders in 1996, Milat received seven consecutive life sentences and died in prison of cancer in October 2019.
