On January 15, 1947, the severely mutilated body of 22-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Short was found in a vacant lot in Los Angeles, California. Her body had been completely drained of blood, cut in half at the waist with surgical precision, and posed with the arms raised above the head. The gruesome crime attracted massive media attention, and Short was posthumously dubbed "The Black Dahlia" by journalists. Despite one of the largest investigations in LAPD history involving over 150 named suspects and numerous false confessions, the murder remains officially unsolved over 75 years later.
