FULL ACCOUNT
Beginning in 1983 and continuing through 1986, thousands of residents of the Hudson Valley in New York and Connecticut reported sightings of a massive boomerang-shaped object with bright lights that moved silently and very slowly through the night sky.
The object was described as larger than a football field, with multiple colored lights. It was witnessed by police officers, airline pilots, IBM engineers, and the head of security at the Indian Point nuclear plant. Over 5,000 witnesses filed reports in a structured investigation by researchers J. Allen Hynek and Philip Imbrogno.
The object frequently appeared hovering directly over the Indian Point nuclear facility, raising significant security concerns. In one memorable incident, the craft moved to within 300 feet of witnesses stopped on Interstate 84.
Skeptics suggested the sightings were caused by small planes flying in formation, but many witnesses rejected this explanation, noting the craft made no engine noise and moved in ways impossible for conventional aircraft.
