Item #: SCP-231
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: All seven instances of SCP-231 (designated SCP-231-1 through SCP-231-7) are to be housed in individual containment chambers at Site-██. Chambers are to be furnished with all items necessary for long-term habitation including recreational materials and medical equipment. All instances are to receive regular psychological counseling from Foundation-cleared personnel.
Containment Procedure 110-Montauk is to be carried out on a schedule determined by Foundation medical staff monitoring SCP-231-7. The full text of Procedure 110-Montauk is accessible only to personnel with Level 5/231 clearance. Personnel who have read the full text of Procedure 110-Montauk are to receive mandatory psychological support for a minimum of 30 days following exposure to the document.
Personnel assigned to SCP-231 containment are prohibited from forming personal relationships with any SCP-231 instance. Violations of this policy will result in immediate reassignment.
Description: SCP-231-1 through SCP-231-7 are seven young women between the ages of ██ and ██ recovered from a compound operated by a cult calling itself the Children of the Scarlet King, following a law enforcement raid in ████. At the time of recovery, all seven were in varying states of physical distress. SCP-231-1 through SCP-231-6 each ████████ ████ ████████ ████ ████, resulting in the emergence of ████████. All six instances, along with the entities their condition produced, were neutralized at great cost to the responding team.
SCP-231-7 is the sole surviving instance.
SCP-231-7's anomalous properties are related to ██████████. What she is carrying, what it will become if she is allowed to reach full term, and the mechanism by which it operates are described in Addendum 231-7-A, which is not accessible below Level 4/231.
What is accessible at Level 2/231 is the following:
Procedure 110-Montauk prevents a specific outcome. The procedure is deeply unpleasant. Foundation psychologists have determined that the ethical weight of the procedure, weighed against the outcome it prevents, results in a net ethical positive by any framework thus far applied. Personnel who have read the full outcome projection disagree with this calculation at a rate of approximately 23%. These personnel are removed from SCP-231 duty and not replaced.
SCP-231-7 is 19 years old. She has been in Foundation custody for ████ years. She is described by containment staff as cooperative, quiet, and prone to long silences. She has requested, in writing, information about what the Foundation is doing and why.
Her requests have been denied at Level 5 authorization.
She has submitted the same request ████ times.
Addendum 231-A: Note from O5-██
The procedure will not stop. The outcome projection has been reviewed by every member of the Overseer Council. The alternative is not containable, is not survivable at scale, and is not something any subsequent ethical review could weigh against the current procedure and find the procedure wanting. We are aware of what we are doing. We have always been aware. There is no version of this document that makes it easier to read. There is no version of 110-Montauk that is not what it is.
She keeps asking. We keep saying no. I don't know if that means anything. I'm not sure it matters whether it does.
Secure. Contain. Protect.
I'm not sure we know what that means anymore.
