FULL ACCOUNT
In 1997, a 14-year-old Japanese boy known by the pseudonym Seito Sakakibara killed two children and attacked three others in Kobe, Japan. In a crime that shocked the nation, the severed head of 11-year-old Jun Hase was placed at the gate of his middle school with a taunting note in the victim's mouth addressed to police. The perpetrator was caught after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed local students. Because of his age he was held in a juvenile facility and released in 2004 under a new identity; he later published a memoir in 2015 under another pseudonym.
