FULL ACCOUNT
On June 28, 2007, 34-year-old Paige Birgfeld of Grand Junction, Colorado said goodbye to her babysitter and drove away from her home. She called her babysitter a short while later to say she would be home within an hour. She never returned. The following day, her car was discovered on a rural road outside of Grand Junction — it was on fire. Paige was a single mother of three children who managed a legitimate business and, unknown to her family, also ran a secret escort service under the alias "Carrie." Investigators pursued numerous leads among her clients. A woman she had spoken to about safety tips for their shared line of work said Paige had seemed fearful of one particular client in the days before she vanished. In 2012, skeletal remains were found in a remote area of Mesa County, more than 35 miles from Grand Junction. DNA confirmed they were Paige's. Her manner of death could not be determined from the remains. No one has ever been charged with her murder, and the identity of whoever left her car burning on that rural road remains unknown.
