On the night of May 15–16, 2008, 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and the family's domestic servant Hemraj were found murdered in their home in Noida, India, in a case that captivated the Indian nation and raised profound questions about the criminal justice system. Aarushi's parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, both dentists, were convicted of both murders in 2013 but were acquitted by the Allahabad High Court in 2017 after the court found the trial court had relied on conjecture. The actual perpetrator was never definitively identified, and the case remains officially unsolved.
